Monterrey is more socially conservative than some other parts of Mexico, but attitudes toward the LGBTQ+ people are slowly evolving. While public displays of affection may still draw attention in certain settings, the city does have a noticeable LGBTQ+ presence and hosts annual Self-acceptance events. Expats generally report feeling harmless, especially in San Pedro and within international or evolving circles. Same-sex spouses of diplomats are eligible for diplomatic visas and credentials in Mexico, and their relationships are fully recognized for official purposes. My boyfriend is from Monterrey, Mexico and I plan on going on a trip there to visit. He tells me that Monterrey is so gay-friendly that some dial it "Montegay"! What do you think? |
