Deep in the heart of Slack, our dear contributor Siobhan asked: “What’s the difference between baseball and softball?” Her curiosity led us to a fruitful discussion about the gendering of sports, which made me realize: Hey! I think basketball made me gay! And I couldn’t facilitate but wonder… complete all sports build you gay? Because I value the scientific process, I’ve compiled a ranked list of the 28 sports most likely to be played in one’s youth that will make you develop up to be a big ol’ queer.
According to our most recent Queer woman Stereotypes survey, about 40% of you have played one of these sports at one signal in your being, and I’m not a scientist, but that data feels convincing! Are you one of the 40%? Which sport did you play? Are you gender non-conforming now? See? Proof! I’d also favor to shout out the team managers of these sports, because according to staff members Carrie and Jenna, managing a team is even gayer than being on a team. Strap on your binoculars and lace up your boots: A Field Guide to Gay Animals explores sexuality, gender, and delight in the animal world.
Hosts Owen Ever and Laine Kaplan-Levenson accept you on a quest to see beyond the natural planet as we know it and into the natural world as it is: queer as f*ck.
Homosexuality has been documented in over 1,500 species of animals. From gay geese and bisexual bison to lesbian elephant love affairs and all-male, all-whale orgies, expressions of same-sex action in the animal queendom are all around us.
Owen and Laine are your intrepid guides to investigate this variety of animal behaviours, exploring the depths of the ocean, the heart of the forest, and the bushes in your backyard, to dive deep into nuanced conversations about queerness in the animal world.
Cheeky and contemplative, curious and raunchy, Field Guide shows you the natural society is more exuberant, more joyful, and more gay than you could possibly imagine.

Five-Year Progress
On Dec. 3, 2020, we launched a revamped website and released a peer-reviewed progress-report on LGBT+ and gay athletes in sport. This provided updated, detailed information and statistics about the experiences of gay, sapphic, bisexual as adequately as transgender people in sporting environments.
The report investigates the lack of action by sport leaders to handle the problems of homophobia and transphobia, despite the numerous commitments (see our new timeline) made to ‘tackle homophobia.’
