Is nadal gay

Did you hear that tennis star Rafael Nadal came out as gay?

It was news to me and I cover this stuff for a living, but some BBC News users adv last month got an alert saying that Nadal had indeed declared he was gay.

The issue is that Nadal did NOT enter out. It was the figment of the imagination of the oxymoronic “Apple Intelligence” feature on iPhones that generated an alert to the BBC News app.

“This misleading notification seemingly misinterpreted an article about Brazilian tennis player Joao Lucas Reis da Silva, who is gay,” Euronews reported.

LONDON/MELBOURNE, July 3 (Openly) - Perform began at Wimbledon on July 3 with some noticeable absences, including two-time champion Rafael Nadal and Croatian former finalist Marin Cilic, who were both recovering from surgery.

But Nadal and Cilic were not the only ones sitting out the men's tug in 2023, as seven-time Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic attempts to draw level with Australian tennis legend Margaret Court's 24 Grand Slams.

There are no openly queer or bisexual male players competing at Wimbledon this year, emphasizing a dearth of LGBTQ+ players in top-level men's tennis that contrasts with their growing representation in other major sports.

What BBC said about this incident

In a statement, a BBC spokesperson said: “It is essential that Apple fixes this problem urgently - as this has happened multiple times. As the most trusted news media organisation in the world, it is crucial that audiences can trust any information or journalism published in our name and that includes notifications.”

The incorrect summary was written by the Apple Intelligence tool which was introduced in the UK in December 2024. This software features a tool designed to provide users with a concise summary of missed app notifications. It can compile the alerts into a unpartnered notification and employs AI to summarize their content.

The incorrect summary about Nadal was reportedly based on a story about Brazilian tennis player Silva's openness about his sexuality. Meanwhile, the other story was also based on a story about Littler's victory in the darts tournament’s semi-final. The report also shared screenshots of the incorrect AI summary.

Apple has rolled back an AI tool after it wrongly claimed former professional tennis player Rafael Nadal had come out as gay in an update of summarised news stories.

“Brazilian tennis player, Rafael Nadal, comes out as gay” read the push notification published earlier this month, and captured and recently reported on by The Telegraph.

Nadal, who was born in Manacor on the island of Mallorca, Spain, is married to Mery Perelló, with whom he is a parent to an infant son, Rafael.

According to the newspaper, the alert also told a number of iPhone users that the BBChad reported that Luke Littler was the winner of the PDC World Darts Championship final before it had commenced.

These are among a slew of inaccuracies that have reportedly plagued the tech giant since a recent update.

Last month, the BBC publicly complained about the AI feature after it cited a non-existent BBC report that Luigi Mangione, who stands accused of killing healthcare boss Brian Thompson, had taken his own life.

Apple previously said it would update the feature, but this has now been suspended. Said a spokesman: “With the latest beta software relea
