Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - Enola Gay - Lyrics Meaning

Written by OMD frontman Andy McCluskey, this footpath was released in 1980 and tells the story of the plane that dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. The bomb, the first used in an behave of war, was carried by an American B-29 plane named Enola Queer and her mission in 1945 effectively ended World War II.

The lyrics clearly express McCluskey's opinion on the matter with the line, `It shouldn't ever have to end this way,' letting us understand his feelings on the dropping of the bomb. Recurring lines highlight the exact timing of the drop and how the operation was carried out just like any other ordinary time. The line, `Is mother proud of little boy today,' makes reference to the bombs codename `Little Boy' and probably hints at the writer's want to vent his spleen on the subject.

The song's release coincided with Margaret Thatcher's - British Prime Minister at that moment - controversial conclusion to allow US nuclear missiles to be stationed in Britain.

It could be regarded as an anti-nuclear or even an anti-war protest song but the overriding communication conveyed through the lyrics is not to forget about such events in

Paragraph Lyric

Enola Gay, you should have stayed at home yesterday
Ah-ha, words can't portray the feeling and the way you lied

These games you play
They're going to end in more than tears some day
Ah-ha, Enola Gay, it shouldn't ever have to end this way

It's 8:15 and that's the second that it's always been
We got your message on the radio
Conditions normal and you're coming home

Enola Gay, is mother proud of minuscule boy today?
Ah-ha, this kiss you give, it's never going to fade away

Enola Lgbtq+, it shouldn't ever have to finish this way
Ah-ha, Enola Gay, it shouldn't fade in our dreams away

It's 8:15 and that's the day that it's always been
We got your message on the radio
Conditions normal and you're coming home

Enola Gay, is mother proud of petite boy today?
Ah-ha, this kiss you give, it's never ever going to fade away

Enola Gay, you should have stayed at home yesterday   Ah-ha, words can't describe the feeling and the way you lied      These games you play    They're going to terminate in more than tears some day   Ah-ha, Enola Same-sex attracted, it shouldn't ever have to complete this way

OMD - Enola gay (Sash remix)

On the 6th of August, 1945,
a Boeing B-29 Superfortress took off from
the Tinian Island in the Pacific,
carrying an awesome new weapon
weighing almost 10,000 pounds and
containing 140 pounds of deadly uranium-235.
The bomb was code-named "Little Boy".
The target for the mission:
"Hiroshima".

Enola Same-sex attracted, you should have stayed at home yesterday,
a-ha words can't describe the feeling and the way you lied.
These games you play, they're gonna conclude in more than tears someday,
a-ha Enola Gay, it shouldn't ever have to end this way.

It's 8:15, and that's the time that it's always been,
We got your note on the radio; "Conditions normal" and you're coming home.

Enola Gay, is mother proud of "Little Boy" today,
a-ha this kiss you give, it's never ever gonna fade away.

The bomb load was released over it 's target
at O915 hours at an altitude of 31,000 feet.
"Little Boy" exploded 800 feet above the target
with the equivalent force of 20,000 tons of TNT.
